Airtel Money is preparing for a potential London stock market debut that could value the African fintech business at between $8 billion and $9 billion, according to the Financial Times.

The mobile money arm of Airtel Africa could file its plans for an initial public offering as early as Wednesday, with the company reportedly seeking to raise at least $800 million from investors.

The potential valuation would position Airtel Money among Africa’s major fintech businesses and marks a significant step in Airtel Africa’s plan to unlock value from its rapidly expanding digital financial services operations.

The planned fundraising appears to have been scaled back from earlier expectations. Previous plans had targeted between $1.5 billion and $2 billion, but Airtel Money’s owners are now considering a smaller offering amid changing market conditions.

Airtel Africa announced in July that it had selected the London Stock Exchange for the listing of its mobile money business.

The IPO has already faced delays. Airtel Africa originally targeted the first half of 2026 but later moved the transaction to the second half of the year as market conditions became more challenging.

Airtel Money has become a major part of Airtel Africa’s business, ranking as the group’s third-largest revenue segment.

The potential London listing would give investors a direct opportunity to participate in the growth of Africa’s digital payments and financial services market, while potentially providing Airtel Africa with significant capital from the transaction.

If completed, the IPO would also represent another major African corporate transaction on the London market as companies across the continent seek international investors and deeper sources of capital.
