Kenya’s economy grew by 5.1% year-on-year in the second quarter of 2026, accelerating from 4.9% in the corresponding period last year, as stronger activity across transport, hospitality and other key sectors supported economic expansion.
The latest figures, released by the Kenya National Bureau of Statistics, point to improved growth momentum in East Africa’s largest economy, with transportation and storage, accommodation and food services among the key contributors.
The transportation and storage sector expanded by 4.4% in the second quarter, up from 3.3% in the same period of 2025, reflecting stronger performance across logistics and transport-related activities.
Other sectors recording notable growth included electricity, information and communication technology, financial services and construction, highlighting the contribution of infrastructure, digital services and business activity to Kenya’s economic performance.
The expansion comes as Kenya continues to rely on services and infrastructure-related industries to sustain growth amid broader economic pressures.
The latest figures suggest that the economy maintained a stronger pace of expansion than a year earlier, supported by activity across multiple sectors rather than a single industry.
For businesses and investors, sustained growth in transport, financial services, ICT and construction could provide opportunities across logistics, digital infrastructure, hospitality and related industries, although the longer-term outlook will depend on the durability of sectoral performance and broader economic conditions.
